Absolutely no smoking in yurts or loft. Smoking is allowed outdoors; please be respectful of your neighbors, field strip cigarettes, and discard in appropriate receptacles. We will charge a $250 fee for violating this policy. Additional charges may apply for extraordinary damages.
Please ask before starting a fire. The county is under a strict burn ban and currently in extreme fire danger.
* In the event no wood fires are allowed, we have a couple of propane fire pits set up. Send us a message if you’d like a propane fire, and we’ll send you instructions to light one!
* If conditions allow for a small wood fire, please use only the communal fire pits, bring your own firewood and keep the campfire contained inside the provided fire pits. Please no cooking over the campfire,
Beyond the line of rocks south of the large kettle fire pit is private property (not ours). DO NOT venture past, or throw any objects beyond, the row of rocks that marks our property boundary.
No cooking is allowed in the yurts or loft, and NO WOOD or CHARCOAL FIRES are allowed near the yurts or loft. You will have a kitchenette with a fridge and freezer, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, blender, and toaster for light meals.
Please enjoy outside time – and those views! – at the outdoor cooking area: We provide a propane grill, grilling utensils and a picnic table for cooking outside.
IMPORTANT: We will make sure the propane tank is full before you arrive. Please be sure to turn off all burners and the propane tank when you are finished. You will be responsible for a refill if the propane runs out. And please wash the grilling utensils after use so they are ready for the next guests!
Please observe quiet hours between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. At all times, please keep volume low and do not leave your vehicle idling for long periods.
The Big Bend area boasts some of the darkest night skies in North America. Please respect other guests who may be here to stay up late gazing at the night sky. Turn off interior and porch lights you are not using and turn off car head lights as quickly as possible.
We have BBT high-speed Internet, and most cell phones work at our location near the Ghostown. We are connected to the grid, served by Rio Grande Electric and Study Butte Water Supply.
In our remote region, water supply, electricity, Internet, and cell service can be disrupted, especially during storms or when resources are stretched during busy seasons. We appreciate your patience in the event services are unavailable. We will share details as we get them from utility companies.
We live in a desert, so please help us conserve water: Don’t leave water running when you aren’t actively using it, (such as while brushing your teeth or shaving), and let us know if you notice a leak or a running toilet, so we can get it fixed!
We share the desert with mammals, including mountain lions, coyotes and black bears, and plants, insects, and snakes, many of which sting, bite, or poke. Please respect the environment you are visiting and be aware of your surroundings.
Our best advice, when hiking or lounging back at the lodge, is to never put your hands or feet where you can’t see what is lurking - behind a log, under a rock, or even in a shoe that’s been unattended overnight. And let us know of any interesting sightings!
We provide a basic first aid kit and flashlight. Please let us know if you use any first aid supplies, so we can replenish, and let us know if the flashlight runs out of battery power.
Staff is generally onsite or nearby. If you have an emergency, please dial 911 and tell the dispatcher you are located at 22900 FM 170, south of the Ghost Town.
If you experience a minor maintenance issue, need extra supplies, or have questions, please let us know and we'll take care of it as quickly as possible!
We appreciate you and look forward to hosting you soon!
